Aging in Place – by Design
Livable housing design is considered premium design in the multiple dwelling design market………..and it makes sense!
What is Livable Housing Australia?
LHA is a partnership between the industry, government, consumer groups and the community to champion for the mainstream adoption of livable housing design principles in all new homes built in Australia.
A livable home includes key easy living features to make the home easier and safer to use for people with disability, parents with young children and to facilitate ageing in place.
A livable home is designed to be capable of easy and cost effective adaptation in the future and enhance the quality of life for all occupants at all stages of their lives.
As Livable Housing Assessors we can guide your design to meet the minimum design criteria for Silver, Gold or Platinum Level for Pre-Sales and promotional advertising of your project. We can also inspect the completed livable housing units and issue the Final Livable Housing Quality Mark.
Liveability is an investment that makes both economic and social sense.
LHA Structure
There are 15 elements that can be applied to a dwelling to incorporate Livable Housing elements, with three rating levels; Silver, Gold & Platinum Level.
Silver Level includes 8 core key structural & spatial design elements that are critical to ensure future flexibility and adaptability of the home and avoid more costly home modification down the track.
Gold Level includes the core elements in addition to enhanced elements. This level provides for more generous dimensions and introduces additional elements in areas such as the kitchen and bedroom.
Platinum Level incorporates all 15 livable housing design elements and would better accommodate ageing in place and people with higher mobility needs and introduces additional elements for features such as the living room and flooring.
Accreditation of Livable Homes
Homes can be accredited by a registered LHA Assessor with the Provisional Livable Housing Quality Mark at design stage and the Final Livable Housing Quality Mark at construction stage, where all elements are deemed compliant with the performance requirements in the LHA Design Guideline.
